I contributed around $3000 the past year by helping my brother get a job, repairs to his trailer, bought him a car, paid past fees to get his water and power connect, and paid in advance, other forms of charity / gifts. Can I deduct any of this on my 2007 taxes if so under what category? Orcan this be claimed on my taxes? Much obliged for the help.

Not withstanding several television and radio programmes on shoddy works and deception by tradesmen in London, I cannot find a register or websites on this topic. Has anyone come across such a website or a register of these fraudsters? Any one with recent experiences to share with Yahoo users? Please restrict comments to quality of house repair works and deception with sources of particular useeful experiences. What would be most appropriate is a knowledge of a register, may be from case law.

Need to establlish a budget to repair a house who do i call?

House is 90yrs.,roof and eavs need replaced or repared,floor in bathroom repaired with all new stool sink and shower,floors need recovered painting thrugout all rooms,kitchen needs upgraded, some doors replaced, the front of house needs closed on wirh new door and one new window,some structure needs addressed soneone who knows what they are looking at and can map out how to get wepairs done,in which order and calcuate the cost of supplies and laber a laught of we need done can be done by use but things that require a licence and warentee need a contractor. Where do I start and in which order do I get it done.

Have written a letter asking permission, they did not reply. They have been like this for over 3 years. I have a leak into my lounge from the window and cannot repair it without going on their road. I will not cause an obstruction to them and it will not effect them at all as they can’t see me from their house. To force them to give me permission it seems that I have to take them to court – I know that the court would give me permission but, as they know, it will cost me money I cannot get back – it does not seem fair. Does anybody have a solution for me that does not cost me a lot of money?

We moved from Florida to Tennessee last year. We improved house in florida before selling. We did not live in Florida house for full 24 months so we are being charged capital gains. We were told we could not claim remodeling/repair costs of house in Florida. Also when we moved to TN., after living in it for only a few months,we sold the first home(duplex)we purchased in TN.,to buy a house with a back yard.
We were informed by our tax prep lady the duplex could not be counted or we could not claim the loss on the house in Florida due to Tennessee tax laws.
Why are we unable to claim the cost of remodel on first house in Florida which includes home remodeling and cost of new water well. Can anyone help to clarify the real estate tax laws in state of Tennessee?

How long does it take for the xbox repair box to come to your house?

About a week ago I called in for a repair for my red ring of death and the stupid box still hasn’t come to my house. I am assuming they got my address down right when i told it to him (he sounded very foreign) How long does it normally take for the box to arrive? Should i call in to check? My has a very shallow basement, about 7ft from floor to ceiling, not counting plumping and duct work. There is also a large wooden support beam running half the length of the basement, held up by temporary jacks, that drops that down to around 6ft. Also there are many areas where the previous owner tried to fix the basement ceiling with pieces of sheet rock. I have a mild moisture problem. I will be installing rain gutters. The floor is not well leveled. One wall of the foundation also has a slight bulge to it, and it seems that there may have been cracks or breaks in the walls that they tried to cover up. I may also have a problem with settling, I dont know. The home is built on an extremly narrow lot, 31ft face, with only a couple feet to the property line, and less than 10 feet between my house and the homes to the next. How feasable would it be to redo the entire foundation, raising the house (or lowering the basement floor)?

Damaged Brick at Back of House – Recommended Repair?

Hi All,
Around 150 water damaged bricks came out from one of the external walls at the back of a very old Triplex. The house is wood frame, brick is just covering externally/cosmetically.
What is the recommended way to repair that: replace with new brick or blocks or is there another less expensive solution like shingles(?) What is the cheapest reasonable solution?
Who should I contact to do this kind of work – a carpenter, mason, plumber, general contractor?

Is there a loan to buy a house AND repair it?

I am looking at a house that I absolutely love. But it needs a lot of work. The seller understands this and is willing to sell the house at below market value, but is not willing to make the repairs themselves.
Is there a loan I could get that would cover the cost of the house and lend extra for the repairs?

Someone broke the valve on our new Kumho tires and we dont want to move the Escalade because it might effect the rims. A service around Southern California or San Fernando Valley would be good.

The house next door is in a bad state of repair and getting worse. The owners are turning up less and less often – in fact we haven’t seen them in over a year now. We are now concerned that the damp etc will extend to and damage our house. Anyone got any suggestions as to a course of action? We’re based in London, UK
