What can you do if the person you leased a house with disappears in the middle of the lease? (virginia)?
ByI came home one day and the house was empty. I called my roommate and she said that she had something worked out with the landlord. The landlord says that he told her he’d look into letting her out of the lease but hasnt made a decision or called her back. As the remaining tennant, what can I do? Can the landlord really let her out of the lease and stick me for the full rent? I live in virginia.

Whether he lets her out of the lease or not, I hate to inform you but you ARE stuck with the full rent. She moved out she’s not going to continue to send you money even if the landlord doesn’t let her out of the lease. All that means is if you default and you get evicted it will also show up on her credit and she will be responsible for damages or any monies owed. She is not responsible to help you continue to pay the rent.
Try to find another roommate quickly to help you cover the rent.

If you both signed the documents, you are both liable. You might want to check with your city in regards to leasing guidelines for tenants. Each area could be different. But I would start looking for a new place if you can’t afford the rent on your own.
